Quota broker Ian Potter tells of the incorrect Intervention Board figures which could have pushed quota prices through the roof. The difference a newspaper deadline date can make, and the timing of when the Intervention Board (IB) releases the latestmilk production figures, had never really occurred to me before, but the combination could have been a deadly one in mid February. If the release of the IB's figures had coincided with the final deadline day for one of the farming weeklies, for instance, then panic would have erupted in the market place on an unprecedented scale, and the market could have risen 5ppl overnight.
