摘要

On US co-operative farms, the herd retirement programme, along with a farmer-funded export assistance programme, is keeping US milk supply and demand in balance and boosting dairy farmer incomes. Periods of high milk prices and low milk prices in theUS have one thing in common - they both result from a very small imbalance in supply and demand. That's the theory behind a new program, Co-operatives Working Together, that has been implemented by US dairy cooperatives without federal or state government involvement. The goal of CWT is to stabilise farm milk prices at moderate levels, and its administrators realise that cutting milk supplies too much will result in milk prices that are high enough to discourage dairy product consumption and encourage dairy imports.
