An industry with sustainable energy

When we initially thought of 'Energy and Mines' as the theme for this year's CIM Conference and Exhibition, we never expected oil to hit 70 dollars per barrel, and that the cost of power would be on the rise. Energy amounts to one of the highest operating costs for the mining industry. When energy costs increase, so does the strain on an operation. As such, mining companies as well as utility companies are forced to seek out alternative sources of energy, such as solar and wind power. There is also increased pressure on both the public and political fronts for major consumers and producers of energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
