Jane Lewis visited NIAB where grass seed trials are taking some of the guesswork out of formulating mixtures. Getting the right seeds mixture can maximise silage yields, or provide good grazing throughout the season to give the best returns from forage. Good mixtures can provide continuously higher annual yields than pure swards of the best ryegrasses. One seed company has shown the importance of tri-alling mixtures under both conservation and grazing management.
