Rachael Porter continues her series of articles on the problems faced by new entrants to dairying by looking at how the rest of Europe is trying to clear away the barriers. Milk quota is a Europe-wide barrier to all would-be new entrants and jumping borders in the hope of finding that elusive first step on the farm ownership ladder is in vain. Wherever you go, the hurdles are high with quota proving the biggest stumbling block. Yet its removal is not the answer.
