Building and looking after earth-banked lagoons

Earth-banked slurry lagoons are a relatively simple and cost-effective way of safely storing slurry and dirty water. However, it is essential that the store isproperly designed, built and maintained, as failure to do so can result in serious pollution incidents. Lagoons vary greatly in size from small facilities, typically 15m wide and 20m long, to much larger stores some 60m wide and 100m long (giving a volume of 4,500m~3).
