The chief executive of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, Philip Gilbert, looks back at the past month. The 'what price for loyalty' debate has been aired recently in frank discussions between the respective chairmen of RABDF and Milk Marque. And an interesting question it is indeed. In the red corner there is Milk Marque extolling the long-term strengths of unity and collective bargaining, and in the blue corner there are independents, pledging a mouth watering premium which, potentially, could translate to an extra ￡15,000/year for a 7,000 litre, 200-cow man. Long term security or short term gain...?
