DOWN ON THE DAIRY FARM

A first-generation dairy farmer who started milking by hand and taking churns of milk out to the end of the lane by horse and cart. He now lists horses as one of his hobbies, along with classical music and trying to guess what Milk Marque will do next. It is many, many years since this country was overrun by a foreign power. My dark hair is probably derived from one of those Norman invaders at the battle of Hastings and all that. It is easy to forget how lucky we are to have escaped invasion, refugees, ethnic cleansing and all that this entails. Most of our European partners have suffered within living memory from invasion or civil war and now we watch from afar as the former Yugoslavia tears itself apart, yet again, in civil war accompanied by ethnic cleansing and all the atrocities associated with it. This may be current affairs but what does it have to do with Dairy Farmer?
