Why we ended up cutting grass in front of the cows

First cut silage was completed on April 25 in excellent weather and without major problems other than a flat batteryon the raking tractor. This is the first year for a while when the grass has been standing dry and cut onto dry ground which meant we were able to do without tedding, saving both time and diesel. We covered 180 acres in no less than 52 fields. After cutting, fertiliser and slurry were applied and, although there has been hardly any rain, the regrowth has been swift so hopefully we will have a second cut by the time you read this.
