The start of the new milk year saw the re-introduction of seasonality payments for many producers. But, where do they fit into an industry which is supposed to be open to free-market forces. Milk Marque have reintroduced seasonality payments this month, but are they appropriate in a free market situation? From November 1 last year to March 31 this year, Milk Marque set the milk price for the standard litre at 24.75ppl, calculated from the estimated income for milk during that period, taking into consideration transport and administration costs.
