With forage maize being the closest many dairymen want to go towards arable cropping, talk of spraying a cocktail of plant growth stimulants and micronutrients is likely to produce glazed expressions amongst many of us.......at least until we hear theresults can be better than drilling under plastic at only a tenth of the cost. It is a little ironic that the treatment isn't new either As we have looked to France as the source of much of our maize seed, the French for their part have been treating agreat deal of their maize with just such a foliar spray manufactured here in Britain. Only now, as more and more British growers are realising that the weather is not the only factor delaying maize ripening, has the treatment started to become as popular here as it is on the other side of the channel.
