Milk producers from the West Country continue their domination of the annual Ayrshire Quality Milk Competition, notching up their fifth win in six years -with the added bonus this year of a record score for the winners. For the fifth time in six years, the winners of the annual Deosan Ayrshire Quality Milk Competition farm in the West Country. Father and son partners Gundry and Anthony Thomas took top honours in this national contest, scoring over 1,300 points - 200 more than last year's record. Thefamily have farmed at Trillian, in the toe of Cornwall, for nearly 50 years and have been milking Ayrshires for more than 30 The herd used to be South Devons, but Anthony was converted to the merits of Ayrshires during a stay in hospital when he was just nine. John Treloar, a great breed enthusiast, was in the bed opposite and he convinced young Anthony that Ayrshires were the only breed worth keeping. In turn, after returning home, Anthony persuaded Gundry to change breeds.
