Feeding regimes used in sheep to promote fertility have also been found to work in cattle used for ET work. The Somerset Cattle Breeding Centre's (SCBC) embryo transfer unit has recently been using two feeding ideas adapted from the sheep industry toimprove pregnancy rates in recipient heifers and cows. The first of these two techniques is currently used to increase lambing percentages. It is common practice for ewes to be changed to fresh pasture for a week or two before tupping. This has the effect of increasing the number of early lambs and increasing the overall yield of lambs. This effect is due to flushing the ewes with an energy boost.
