By investing in the latest milk cooling technology, a Mid Glamorgan dairy farmer has achieved his aim of the lowest possible running costs. When Llanharry. farmer Michael Morgan upgraded his parlour and milk cooling system, efficiency and saving moneywere two of his priorities. A recent check has shown costs of just 2.16p/100 litres of milk cooled, and compressors that run for just 1.5-2 hours/day. This easily justifies his decision to combine a state-of-the-art direct expansion tank with pre-cooling and maximum use of low tariff electricity. Furthermore, linking a heat recovery unit into the compressors hot gas exhaust is providing the additional bonus of low-cost hot water for parlour cleaning.
