Paul emigrated to New Zealand in 1976 and worked his way up through the share farming system to full farm ownership with his wife Shirley. They sold their hilly 89ha dairy farm on the North Island last year and have converted a 160ha sheep farm on the South Island to dairying. Spring sunshine is melting drifts of hailstones on the lawn, but the knife-edged South-west wind is still slicing its way up from the Big Ice. Typical early October weather in Southland or equally typical of April in England.
