It has been said that the hardest thing about running the London Marathon is getting to the starting line. With some 20,000 people battling for position before the start, only when they reach that point does the race actually begin. Grass breeders must often feel they have run a marathon by the time their variety is added to the National or Recommended List, but only then does the need for stamina show as they endeavour to keep it there.
