In a relatively short period, the Olympian herd has built up a solid reputation for quality stock among the UK's pedigree and commercial breeders. Rachael Porter has been to find out more about the herd and its plans for the future. The Olympian herdis well recognised by those working in the dairy industry, yet only seven years have passed since Geoff and Chris Spiby decided to set up the 60-cow high genetic merit nucleus herd at Chalder Farm, Sidlesham, West Sussex. This year sees the three-stage establishment programme well into its final phase, with second generation stock being milked and third and fourth generations coming through - exactly where the partners planned to be.
