A series of Co, Ni and Cu complexes with the ligand HN(CH _2CH_2PiPr_2)_2 (HNP _2) has been isolated and their electrochemical behaviour investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The nickel complexes [(HNP2)NiOTf]OTf and [(HNP_2)NiNCCH_3](BF_4)_2 display reversible reductions, as does the related amide derivative (NP _2)NiBr. The related copper(i) and cobalt(ii) derivatives were also isolated and characterized. The addition of piperidine to [(HNP _2)NiNCCH_3](BF_4)_2 led to the formation of the new species [(HNP_2)Ni(N(H)C(CH_3)NC _5H_(10))](BF_4)_2. The nucleophilic addition of piperidine to acetonitrile to produce HNC(CH_3)NC _5H_(10) was found to be catalyzed by [(HNP _2)NiNCCH_3](BF_4)_2.
