Highpine Oil & Gas Limited plans to spud its first Montney horizontal well at Wapiti and drill two Rock Creek natural gas prospects in the next month. The company has other locations surveyed in the Wapiti area and a surface lease on the next location should it decide to drill a second well, Chuck Buckley, senior vice-president of exploration, said in a conference call to discuss second quarter results. There is now public data on an EnCana Corporation Montney horizontal well about 10 miles to the north of Highpine which came on production about a month ago and is producing more than two mmcf per day of gas, he told an analyst.
