Crystal Graphite Seeks Permit for Black Crystal Mine

Crystal Graphite Corp. of Vancouver, British Columbia, has filed an application for a mining permit for its Black Crystal mine near Nelson, British Columbia. A decision is expected by the end of June 2002. Initially, the company planned to process 250 000 tpy of ore at its plant in Koch Creek, British Columbia, but now says that because of the weakness in the steel industry it will phase in production. The company has recently completed the installation of a reconditioned regrind rod mill and a new dewatering system at its pilot plant. The plant is now preparing, for inventory purposes, 20 t of 95 percent graphitic carbon and 20 t of 97 percent graphitic carbon.
