(Reuters) - U.S. oil and gas exploration and production companies including Bill Barrett and Denbury Resources gave upbeat forecasts for the rest of year given continuing strength in oil prices and falling oilfield service costs. In the second quarter, the price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil averaged just under $60 per bbl, up from $43 per bbl last quarter but less than half the price during the same quarter a year ago. On Tuesday, EXCO Resources Inc., W&T Offshore Inc., Berry Petroleum Co., and Unit Corp. reported better-than-expected quarterly results, helped by lower costs, and indicated that the market appears to be stabilizing.
