Vermonter's are widely known as innovators within the dairy industry Their long history of dairy and cheese production has withstood the test of time. Goat dairies have become quite common in the state and high quality goat cheese is frequently available at farmers' markets and local retail establishments. Kristan Doolan and George VanVlaanderen of East Fairfield are the owners of Does' Leap where, for the past nine years, they have been developing their herd of 50 Alpines and Alpine-Nubian crosses for their production of artisan cheese. With nine years under their belt the couple has withstood many of the challenges facing newcomers in the dairy goat industry and they credit innovations, inventions, and just plain old good thinking for their success in managing a successful goat dairy.
