Manitoba Exploration and development highlights 2005

Near record high prices for base metals, sustained strength in precious metal prices, and renewed interest in diamond exploration in Manitoba's far north are expected to push exploration spending in the province to about 53 million dollars for 2005. This represents a 47 per cent increase in spending from the 36 million dollars spent in 2004. In April, the Mineral Exploration Assistance Program (MEAP) and the Manitoba Prospectors Assistance Program (MPAP) were renewed for another three-year period as part of the province's continued support for exploration and mining. MEAP and MPAP will continue to offer over 2.5 million dollars of assistance annually.
