Consumer activity has weakened in the Eastern Donbass anthracite market in March because of the end of the heatingseason and low paying capacity of buyers. Enterprises of housing and communal services as well as a private sectorwere more active in February for stock building, but have slashed purchases of AM and AS coals this month. Therefore, major anthracite volumes are being currently shipped under the earlier signed contracts and spot deals are sporadic, being made for small batches only. Meanwhile, mining increased after a launch of new facilities at a number of coalcompanies. As a result, the market has faced oversupply amid weak demand, and some miners have to leave substantialvolumes in warehouses. Besides, there is competition with Ukrainian exporters. However, Russian companies arereluctant to reduce prices leaving them unchanged this month.
