The administrative district Nürnberger Land(is located in the heart of the metropolitan region of Nuremberg. It is influenced by its good industrial and commercial structure as well as by its well-developed infrastructure of transportation. This is due to its central location in Europe. In the early Middle Ages, Nuremberg was already a hub of international trade routes. On the other hand, there are also rural areas with a beautiful landscape. This is of great importance for the habitat and species conservation and recreation in the countryside. It is the task of rural development to improve living and working conditions of local people and to preserve the unique cultural landscape with its historical sites. The article presents factors of strategy and success that can be applied to comparable regions.
