GIS-based viewshed analyses: A comparison of digital elevation models and landscape models as input data for viewshed analyses

In the study described, several digital elevation models and digital landscape models were compared as input data for GIS-based viewshed analyses. The effects of data quality and spatial resolution on the visibility calculations were investigated. In addition to the preparation of input data, this article also describes the operational viewshed calculations as well as the comparison and validation of the results. Finally, recommendations for GIS-based viewshed analyses are presented.
