Flood control and near-natural water design: Middle Rezat - Rural development in Middle Franconia [Hochwasserschutz und naturnahe gew?ssergestaltung mittlere rezat - L?ndliche entwicklung in mittelfranken]
Due to the rural development in the Middle Rezat 400,000 cubic meters of flood retention area have been created, 100ha of bank protection strips as an additional retention area have been laid as well as extensive renaturation measures for surface water. A total of 30 individual procedures for land consolidation and village renewal has contributed to the sustainable development of seven cities and towns. This helps to secure the future of rural areas in the east of the franconian town of Ansbach in Bavaria. The main focus in the group process was on measures of flood protection and water design close to the nature, because of the frequent floods in the flood plain of the river Franconian Rezat. In close cooperation with the Water Management Administration adaptation and prevention strategies have been developed to respond adequately to climate change. Surface deployment and implementation of the projects have been carried out in accordance with the interests of property owners and the land managemen t of rural development. An early public participation provided for acceptance.
