Located in the Icelandic highlands the KarahnjUkar Hydro-Electric Project represents one of thelargest recent engineering projects worldwide. In the finalstages the question arose how to verify the structure of thesection wise applied shotcrete coating in the approximately40km TBM driven headrace tunnel. The article at handprovides an introduction to the project itself as well as itexplains a laser scanner based procedure that obtained re-presentative shotcrete thickness, volume etc. without a pre-shotcrete reference scan and allowed sufficient geo-referen-cing without connection to the tunnel traverse points.
