LIKE MANY OF MYTECHNOLOGY COLLEAGUES, I ENJOY READING SCIENCE FICTION novels. Many of these stories predicted that the advent of the new millennium would bring massive panic, societal upheaval, and a return of religious fervor. The authors were right, of course - but little did they know that most of those gripped by this fever would be IT professionals worried about crashing systems, Java-based middleware, and supply-chain integration.
