Contracting models. An approach to increase the availability of complex production systems. A change in customer behaviour, combined with a gradual rise in service-provision mentality in the construction of production systems, raises the question of how the availability of production systems can be increased in production operations and by whom. It is anticipated that a further increase in availability can he achieved via the introduction of operator models. This contribution derives an contractor definition of complex production plant from the idea of contracting models that has been known since the eighties and works out the significance of contracting models for ensuring availability.
