Multi-agent systems for promoting competence. Support in fault diagnosis on CNC machine tools. Against a background of growing work demands in the production area due to new organisational concepts and widening automation, it is becoming increasingly important to provide support for machine operators in the fulfilment of their tasks and to create learning processes within the framework of practical activities. This paper presents a computer-assisted fault diagnosis support system which, besides meeting the general requirements made on such systems, also promotes the competence of the user by means of a specific software architecture.
