Experiences with FSB weak acid thin juice softening at the Suiker Unie Anklam sugar factory during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns

In 2013 the Fractal Shallow Bed Weak Acid Cation (FSB-WAC) softening system was installed at Suiker Unie Anklam. To evaluate the FSB system, a team from Cosun Food Technology Centre investigated the process during the start-up campaign in 2013. At the beginning results of the softening were good, but at the start up of a service run a pH value drop occurred and optimal softening started with a delay due to chemical kinetics.
