Scheduling in Manufacturing by Cloning Simulation: The Importance of Simulation during the Scheduling Process

Simulation should be used as a support performing scheduling task, especially dealing with complex manufacturing system: since simulation accurately describes the process and its constraints, it allows to consider every static and dynamical production constraints during scheduling. We refer to this approach as scheduling simulation, since a simulator allows to yield a schedule during the running process. In this paper, a general description of two important approaches to scheduling are provided. They are based on semi automated scheduling and scheduling simulation. Moreover a real world case study is reported, that involves the world-wide leader in medication delivery market.
