The Neotropical genus Schistopeltis (Blattaria: Blaberidae, Zetoborinae) with a new species from Colombia

The blaberid genus Schistopeltis Rehn is rediagnosed. Schistopeltis microschistos n. sp. is described and the genus is recorded for the first time from Colombia. A taxonomic key is given to distinguish the new taxon from the previously known species S. peculiaris (from Brazil) and S. lizeri (from Bolivia). The Neotropical genus Schistopeltis was erected by Rehn (1916) based on the type-species Schistopeltis peculiaris from Brazil. Later, Rehn (1928) described a second species, S. lizeri, from Bolivia. Princis (1964) listed both species in the world catalogue "Orthopterorum Catalogue". Based on study of the male genitalia of Zetoborinae, Roth (1970) considered Schistopeltis and Tribonium as members of the tribe Triboniini. The genus Schistopeltis wasnot previously listed from the Colombian cockroach fauna in Velez et al. (2006). A new species from Colombia herein described constitutes a new record on the distribution of the genus in South America.
