Rb2PdI4. I-2 is the first rubidium iodopalladate(II) which could be prepared. Despite showing the same formula type, the compound is not isotypic to Cs2PdI4. I-2. The crystal structure of Rb2PdI4. I-2 was explored by X-ray crystal structure analysis. Rb2PdI4. I-2 shows orthorhombic symmetry, space group Pnma (No. 62) with lattice parameters a = 7.982(1) Angstrom, b = 12.267(1) Angstrom, c = 14.599(1) Angstrom, Z = 4. Palladium is coordinated by four iodine atoms building the typical square-planar coordination. Further iodine is inserted as I-2 molecules. Another compound with the same empirical formula but octahedrally coordinated Pd-IV - Rb2PdI6 - could be obtained microcrystallinic in connection with Rb2PdI4. I-2. [References: 27]
