Geohazards in Albania

摘要

Due to its geologic and tectonic setting and constitution, Albania is affected by various natural geohazards, such, as strong earthquakes, coastal erosion and coastal subsidence. The development of copper, chromium, iron-nickel, oil and chemical industries, especially during the 1970s and 1980s, has left a legacy of massive pollution and environmental geohazards in the rivers. Cooperation in joint projects with other countries would assist in the prevention and minimisation of some major geohazards, such as shoreline erosion, serious flooding of coastal areas, and hazards from former mining, processing and chemical industries. This would also include prevention of possible hazards in lakes of hydroelectric power plants as well as ongoing potential hazards from earthquakes.
