In a US trade journal, someone recently observed that "successful lean implementation needs reliable equipment to prevent disastrous consequences. Together, they increase production capacity, decrease downtime/maintenance spending, and maximize impact and results." That sounds quite logical. Translation: "We want to maximize equipment uptime, have no environmental incidents and make lots of money while keeping everybody happy." At issue is always how to get there.
