The specifications of the products that come out of the refineries are getting tighter and tighter, which means less and less sulphur is allowable in the product. At the same time, the etude oil entering the refinery has a sulphur content that has reeendy increased. Therefore, refineries face a significant challenge in terms of the costs associated with reducing product sulphur, both from the capital cost of investing in new technology and increased operating cost.
