Portals are readily available for organizations to take advantage of their ease-of-use and inherent collaboration potential. In many ways, the technology is "right for the times." Portals make use of Internet technologies such as Internet browsers, e-mail and Microsoft Office. Portals are about enhancing worker productivity. Although technically they should facilitate workers from around the world working together, unless you deploy them properly and train workers properly, they might not provide the efficiency you expect. You have to have some guiding principles in mind before they can truly increase productivity of those using them.
