Ahazard and operability studies/plant hazard analysis(HAZOP/PHA)activity is not a stand-alone process.To improve plant operations and safety,a HAZOP must be the catalyst for additional intense engineering processes.Traditionally,a HAZOP/PHA involves one or more analytical methods to identify and evaluate process hazards.The goal:determine the adequacy of,or need for,control measures.Although control measures vary,it typically includes layers of protection(LOPs).Mitigating the risks of specific hazards-the ultimate goal of HAZOP activities-requires intense LOP analysis.
