Distillation is the most often used means to separate two or more components, exploiting the physical properties of different boiling points. Separation by distillation is completed in stages with chemical equilibrium at each point in the process to build a composition profile. The products are taken out at the peak of the composition, usually at the top and bottom of a tower, with intermediate levels of composition between the extremes.
