Methanex targets US for relocation of capacity

Methanex plans to move at least one methanol plant from Chile to the US, seeking to capitalize on a trend of low natural gas prices and possible interest in gasoline alternatives. For now, the Canada-based company hopes to relocate one of its four methanol plants in Punta Arenas, Chile (Figs. 1 and 2), to a new US Gulf site in Geismar, Louisiana.
