Federal Government funds New Clean Coal Power Station to be built in Latrobe Valley by HRL Limited

Australian energy technology company HRL Limited has welcomed Federal Government funding support to build a new technology clean coal 400 MW demonstration power station in Victoria's Latrobe Valley. The 750 million dollars project has been offered a grant of 100 million dollars under the Federal Government's Low Emissions Technology Demonstration Fund (LETDF). HRL Developments Chief Executive Officer Gordon Carter thanked the Federal and State governments for their strong support of the project. HRL is an Australian-owned energy technology company based in Victoria that has been developing the new integrated drying and gasification combined cycle (IDGCC) technology over the past 15 years at an investment of over 140 million dollars. The technology has been proven at 10 MW scale in the Latrobe Valley with electricity generated to the grid. The 400 MW power station will demonstrate the new technology. HRL expects to be in a position to commit to construction of the power station mid 2007 with the plant expected to be operational by late 2009 selling power into the National Electricity Market.
