BMA's Hay Point Coal Terminal Shiploader damaged in collision with ship's crane

An incident occurred at BMA's Hay Point Coal Terminal on Wed 28 December 2005 when Shiploader 1 came into contact with a loading crane on the vessel Vega Pioneer, which sustained minor damage from the collision. The vessel sailed on 30 December. No one was injured in the incident, but a section of Hay Point's shiploader boom which is attached to the main structure was damaged during the incident and requires repairs. BMA estimate, that Shiploader 1 will be out of action for around eight weeks, and will be recommissioned in March 2006. In the meantime, Hay Point's Shiploader 2 will continue working at full capacity. The outage will decrease port capacity to around 70 percent for the duration of the repairs.
