Leighton Contractors to purchase Henry Walker Eltin mining assets

Leighton Contractors Pty Limited has entered into a Heads of Agreement with the Administrators of Henry Walker Eltin Group Limited (HWE), to purchase the Australian and New Zealand contract mining assets of the company for 215 million dollars, subject to documentation and certain conditions including the approval of the Foreign Investment Review Board. HWE, with a long established presence in Australia's mining industry, was placed into Voluntary Administration earlier this year. Its assets include fifteen mining operations with a combined turnover of approximately 650 million dollars per annum, work in hand of approximately 1.6 billion dollars and a workforce of more than 1600 people. It holds significant status in the Australian mining industry as the leading contract miner in the iron ore sector.
