Management of red oak (Quercus rubra L.) stands in the Nyirseg forest region (Eastern-Hungary)

摘要

Besides black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) and hybrid poplar ssp., red oak (Quercus rubra L.) can be considered as the third most important exotic stand-forming tree species in Hungary. Due to its favourite silvicultural and growth characteristicsas well as its wood utilization possibilities the present area occupied by red oak stands amounts to 14 000 hectares in the country. Of its growing districts Nyfrseg (Eastern-Hungary) has a distinguished importance where the area of red oak stands is 2000 hectares. Due to the increasing interest in red oak growing in more and more countries, this study has been compiled with the aim of giving a summary on the basis of research and improvement connected with the species over the past decades.
