Profits up by 95% in mining sector but critical challenges remain,says pwc global report

The world's 30 largest listed mining companies reported a 95 per cent increase in aggregate net profits for 2003,up from USUS 5.8bn to USUS 11.5bn,according to a new comprehensive market report by PricewaterhouseCoopers.'Mine - review of global trends in the mining industry',shows that this improvement in trading results has been accompanied by a substantial rise in the global market capitalisation of the industry,which has doubled over the last 18 months reaching USUS 390bn in March 2004.
