Maharashtra signs MoU for 12,500 MW

The Government of Maharashtra signed Memorandum of Understanding on April 4,2005 with eight power companies for installing about 12,500 MW power in state over the next five years.The projects would entail an investment of around Rs.50,000 crore.As per the MoU signed,the Maharashtra State Electricity Board or its successor will buy 50 per cent of power generated from the private operators at the rate approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulation Commission' (MERC).
