Effect of highland cultivation on the growth and flowering of Cymbidium Melody Fair 'Marilyn Monroe' during summer.

The effect of altitude on the growth of Cymbidium cv. Melody Fair Marilyn Monroe was investigated during the summer (20 June-17 Sep. 1993). Plants were grown at Pusan (lowland) or Mt. Kaya (850 m). Plants cultivated at Mt. Kaya had smaller leaves and pseudobulbs than plants cultivated at Pusan, but pseudobulbs contained higher contents of total sugars and starch and were heavier (DW basis) than Pusan grown plants. Plants grown at Mt. Kaya flowered 12 days earlier than those at Pusan.
