A huge variety of jobs exist in commercial horticulture, in both the growing and selling of ornamental plants and cut flowers, as well as fresh edibles — vegetables and fruits ready for the table or for processing. Meanwhile, while not immune to theimpact of the squeeze on consumer spending, the garden retail sector remains vibrant with ever more players looking to get a foot in the sector's door. Opportunities exist for plantspeople and those good at sales, as well as engineers to oversee the technology — from ventilation systems and harvesting equipment, through to in-store irrigation, stock control and IT management.
